Group
Eagles 1 (Jack.D) v  South Park Stags 0
Eagles 1 (Jack.D) v  Warlingham Colts 1
Eagles ( James, Jack Matt  Warren Mead 0

We then qualified top of the group and played South Park Stallions in the Quarter Final

Quarter Final - Eagles 1 (James)  South Park Stallions 0

We won this with a great headed goal by James in the second session of extra time, and this put us into the semi final against Crawley Town.

Semi Final -  Eagles 1 (Matt) v  Crawley Town Red 1 - FT
Eagles 2 (Matt) v Crawley Town Red 2 - AET

The boys played some great football during this game on a pitch that was on a steep slope, but eventually lost 7-6 on penalties in front of a very large crowd.
There was not a runners up (plate) play off so we either came 3rd or 4th out of 16 teams. Once again a very good result, but so close to it being a great result.

June 30th 2007 - Plate Winners Perrywood Tournament

Eagles Squad: Jack, Adam, Jack, Joe, Matt, James.H, Benjamin

Golden Eagles Squad: Jake, Owen, Josh, Leo, Max, Daniel.DK, George

Well this time last year we had a heat wave and the Perrywood tournament was played on a really hot day, this year was the opposite and it poured down with rain all day. One of the teams entered also dropped out so the tournament format had to be re-drawn,  the games and scores of both teams are below:

Eagles 1 (Benjamin pen.) v Epsom  0
Eagles 3 (Jack x2, Matt) v Golden Eagles  0
Epsom 3 v Golden Eagles 0
Golden Eagles 0 v Epsom Youth 1
Eagles 5 (Joe, Matt x2, Benjamin x2) v TD Shipley 0
Preston Blades 2 v Golden Eagles 3 (George x2, Max pen.)
Eagles 4 (Benjamin x2, o.g.x2) v First Foxes 0
First Foxes 0 v Golden Eagles 4 (Max x3, o.g.)
Epsom Youth 1 v Eagles 0
Eagles 0 v Preston Blades 0
TD Shipley 1 v Golden Eagles 0

Eagles lost out on goal difference to Epsom to finish 3rd
3rd v 4th Plate Trophy final play off
Eagles 2 (Jack, Joe) v TD Shipley 0

To summarise, if the Golden Eagles had beaten TD Shipley in their last game they would have made the play off's and then would have been up against the Eagles. The Eagles missed out on the Cup Final on goal difference, although should have been there on form but failed to beat Preston Blades, but did beat the eventual winner "Epsom Eagles" in the group stage. The Eagles went on to beat TD Shipley in the Plate final.

PERRYWOOD EAGLES

June 23rd 2007 - Trophy Winners Crawley Town Tournament

Eagles Squad: Jack, Adam, Josh, Max, Joe, Matt, James.H, Benjamin

On Saturday 23rd June we put one team into the Crawley Town tournament, there were four groups of four teams and our scores at this stage were as follows:

0 - 0 Southdown Panthers

1 - 0 East Grinstead Town (Matt)
1 - 0 Lingfield (Benjamin)

So we were through into the cup semi final as top of the group, and were up against Mid Sussex Blues, where we conceded early on to what ended up as the only goal. This dropped us into the Trophy final which we won 1-0 over Cuckfield Cosmos (Benjamin). Mid Sussex went onto the Cup final where they were comfortable winners over Southpark (who had beaten Cuckfield on penalties in the other semi). We later found out that Mid Sussex were in fact Lindfield, who we have never lost to before but I must admit they played well on the day and were worthy winners of the tournament, so all of this will make for a good league next year.

The Eagles finished as Trophy winners, which in reality was 3rd place, not too bad out of a total of 16 teams, but still we know we could have done better :)

PERRYWOOD EAGLES

June 9th 2007 - DSOV Tournament Amsterdam

Eagles Squad: Jack, Jake, Josh, Max, Daniel.DK, Joe, Matt, James.H

Well on Friday the 8th June we took a small group of boys away to Amsterdam to enter a tournament over there put on by a good friend Rob de Rooij. The boys were a bit excited on the first night and we probably didn't get them into bed before midnight.

They were up early and off to the football ground on Saturday for the tournament. The boys started slowly as they tried to adapt to the local rules (much bigger pitches, bigger goals, size 4 footballs, drop kick goal kicks, and a different style of refereeing and 20 minute matches) with a 1-1 draw against DCS Zevenaar (but also managed to hit the bar and miss a late penalty) with the goal being scored by Joe. The next game against De Zwervers the boys won 4-0 with goals from Matt, Joe (2) and Jake, and we rounded of the group stage with a 4-1 win over the host team DSOV, with goals from Jay (2), Joe and Matt.

We topped the group and went for a head to head final against Empilina. This was a tough team and we had watched them demolish the other local opposition 10-2, 12-0 and 16-0. The boys faired a little better but still went down to a very good side 5-0, the team did play very well and battled hard right till the very end.

So well done to all the boys that went and to all the parents, you made Dickie and myself very proud, and lastly many thanks to all of our new Dutch friends.

We had an excellent time over in Holland in centre parks and enjoyed some fun in the swimming pool complex, a great beach football match, a cycle ride and mini golf.

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  0 v 2 PERRYWOOD EAGLES

March 13th 2007 - League

Golden Eagles Squad: Jake, Owen, Josh, Daniel.DK, Ryan, George, Max, Daniel.DS

Eagles Squad: Jack, Adam, James, Joe, Matt, Jack, Benjamin, James

Goal Scorers: Jack.D, James.H

Ok, for the last game of the season the Golden Eagles played the Eagles. It was quite a good turn our of boys with only Leonardo missing, so it was decided to play 8 v 8.

With the Eagles being the stronger team it was always going to be a tuff game for the Golden Eagles, especially now with Judas eer I mean James.H playing for the Eagles :)

The aim for the Golden Eagles was really to snuff out the Eagles attack and frustrate them in midfield and see if it was possible to improve on the previous score of 3-0, and to be honest the boys did this for the first 10 minutes.

It was only when Jack.D pushed up and ran onto a loose ball, striking a great shot passed Jake. A few moments later at a corner, James.H managed to shake off his markers and score at the back post, 2-0 Eagles. With the quality of players in the Eagles you can't afford to switch off for a second or they will punish you, and that is what happened here to the Golden Eagles.

For the second half it was much the same story with the Eagles seeing most of the ball, but the Golden Eagles battled very well to keep them out and really Jake did not have that much to do in goal. The Golden Eagles tried to catch the Eagles on the counter attack with the midfield players covering lots of ground, and when they forced a corner there was even a chance of a goal.

The box was loaded with players and Max whipped in a great corner that some how passed through the crowded area and struck the back post, the ball rebounded out to Josh who from well outside the area struck it back in but was saved well by Jack.F.

The Golden Eagles defence managed to shut out Benjamin and Matt for the rest of the half and the game finished with just the two goals to the Eagles.

After the game all the boys were awarded a trophy from the league for participating in the league this year. For 2007/8 the trophies get a lot bigger so lets hope the teams will be lifting one this time next year.

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  1 v 2 Southdown Tigers

April 29th 2007 - League

Squad: Jake, Owen, Josh, Daniel.DK, Ryan, George, Max, Matt

Goal Scorers: Matt

The Golden Eagles were up next playing against another team from Southdown. There was no sign of Leonardo or Daniel.DS and Ryan arrived a few minutes late so the game started with Matt helping out up front. This paid off as Matt opened the scoring for 1-0 Perrywood. Southdown then got an easy equaliser from a corner, the ball came in low along the floor and the striker just managed to side foot it in without any form of challenge. For the second half it was pretty even with neither team having any good chances on goal. Then from a throw Southdown broke and their player just smashed a shot at goal from a long way out, the ball bounced just in front of Jake and went through his legs for 2-1 Southdown. We really must work on getting back quickly and marking up, if we take too much time then we will pay the price. The last game of the season is the Eagles v Golden Eagles, lets hope all the boys can turn up.

Man of the Match: Max

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  4 v 1 Southdown Lions

April 29th 2007 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, James, James, Joe, Matt, Benajmin

Goal Scorers: Joe, Matt (2), Benjamin

Ok, for this game the Eagles were up against another team from Southdown. Perrywood opened the scoring from a Matt corner. The keeper spilt it and Joe was on hand to smash it in for 1-0 (similar to John O'shea for Man Utd against Everton). Matt made it two after some good work by Joe in the middle. Southdown managed to get one back when a corner was not dealt with and they pounced and struck it into the net. This seemed to spur the boys on and Matt laid a ball off to Benjamin who converted for 3-1. Matt finished the scoring off to make it 4-1 and that is how the game ended.

Man of the Match: Joe

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  2 v 1  TD Shipley White

April 22nd 2007 - League

Squad: Jake, Owen, Josh, Daniel.DK, Ryan, Daniel.DS, George, Matt, Joe, Adam

Goal Scorers: Matt (2)

For the last game of the double double header the Golden Eagles were playing TD shipley White. Perrywood battled well during the first half but could not find a goal, and really have most of the pressure. Matt came on in the second half and immediately got on the score sheet with a great run and finish, 1-0 Perrywood. Matt was chopped down on the edge of the box for a free kick. He dusted himself down and chipped it in the top corner for 2-0. TD Shipley did have a break in the second half and for some reason Josh raised his hand up to stop the ball in the penalty area (no idea why :) ). TD were awarded the penalty and duly converted but it was to late to make any real difference, the game finished 2-1.

Man of the Match: Josh

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  5 v 1 ThreeBridges

April 22nd 2007 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, James, Jack, James, Joe, Matt, Benjamin

Goal Scorers: OG, Joe, Ben (3)

For the second Eagles game of the day, they played ThreeBridges who are the U7 team. On previous games the Perrywood teams have racked up double digit scores against them. This time I am not sure if it was the heat, being worn out after the first game, or just not being up for it after the first game but we seemed to be a bit complacent and lazy. Sure the boys won and won comfortably but the effort was not as it could have been. The scoring opened when Benjamin crossed and was sort of knocked in by the keeper. Joe got it up running properly with a good run from around half way, past a few defenders before slotting it home for 2-0. Benjamin made in 3, and scored again to make it 4, after some good build up play between Joe and Matt. Benjamin also scored number 5. ThreeBridges then got one back with a smashing shot for 5-1.

Man of the Match: None

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  0 v 0  Southdown Pumas

April 22nd 2007 - League

Squad: Jake, Owen, Josh, Daniel.DK, Ryan, George, James, James

Goal Scorers:

The second game of the day was the Golden Eagles up against the other strong team from Southdown. The boys battled well and another hard fought game ended 0-0, which made up for a defeat against the pumas earlier on in the season. For this game it was pretty evenly matched with both teams having good chances in the closing minutes.

Man of the Match: Jake

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  0 v 0 Southdown Panthers

April 22nd 2007 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, James, Jack, James, Joe, Matt, Benajmin

Goal Scorers:

A tough game against Southdown Panthers who were looking for revenge from the Fiesta. This was a good game, well battled by both sides, as per the Fiesta I think Southdown just edged it was the play and the shots on goal but did not manage to score. Perrywood seemed to come on strong for the last 5 minutes of each half and did put Southdown under some pressure, and right at the end had some very good chances to snatch it, but the game ended 0-0 and luckily no penalties this time.

Man of the Match: Jack.F

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  5 v 0 TD Shipley ZW

April 15th 2007 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, James, James, Joe, Matt, Benajmin

Goal Scorers: Benjamin (2), Matt, Jack, Joe

I didn't really get a good match report on this one because I was concentrating on taking pictures for the presentation day, but it was a fairly easy game against the U7 team from TD shipley. Who to be honest never really stopped running and chasing through out the whole game and competed very well. Matt opened the scoring, then Benjamin, Jack, Benjamin and Joe.

Man of the Match: James.H

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  1 v 2  Crawley Down Red

April 15th 2007 - League

Squad: Jack, Owen, Josh, Daniel.DK, Ryan, Daniel.DS, George

Goal Scorers: Max

I didn't really get a good match report on this one because I was concentrating on taking pictures for the presentation day. Crawley down scored first very early on, Perrywood fought back and max scored well from a long range effort. Things were about even for the rest of the game till Crawley got the break. When Perrywood tried to clear from a corner, the ball struck a crawley attacker on the hand and then was smashed into the goal by another crawley striker. All the perrywood players called for hand ball but this was waved away by the ref!

Man of the Match: Max

PERRYWOOD EAGLES - WINNERS

April 7th 2007 - Southdown Fiesta

Squad: Jack, Adam, Josh, Jack, James, James, Matt, Benjamin

It was looking like it was going to be a nice day as the convoy headed off on the way to Burgess Hill, but I don't think any of us realised just how good a day it was going to be.

We were placed in a group which I think was the B group and the scores were as follows:

Perrywood 2 v 0 Lindfield Black

Perrywood 1 v 0 Forest Row

Perrywood 0 v 0 Southdown Pumas

Perrywood 3 v 0 Three Bridges Black

Perrywood 3 v 0 Marle Place Blue

Perrywood 0 v 0 Crawley Town Red

We finished the group stage at the top of our table, and setup a semi final clash against Southdown Panthers who were the runners up from group A. The panthers had beaten our team before in the Crawley league 5-1 so we knew it was going to be tough.

I must admit the boys were under the kosh a fair bit during the game but managed to hold out, and we did have a couple of chances of our own. Normal time came and went without any scores, and we were now into two sessions of extra time. These also came and went without either team managing to score, so we were now faced with a penalty shoot out! Certainly during the group stage and for parts of the semi's Jack had not seen a lot of the ball and had rarely been called into action, but now this was his moment. So cometh the moment cometh the man, and Jack did not let us down and managed to save two of the penalties, so we went through 4-3 in the end.

I don't think I can write the words that describe how tense the shoot out was and the joy that we all had when we won, it really was amazing. The penalty shoot out really is a lottery but it was clear that lady luck was on our side this day.

Now we were through to the finals and faced Three Bridges Amber who had dispersed of Crawley Town in the semi's. To be honest we were already happy with our progress and really didn't have anything to lose. In this game again normal time came and went without any scores as both teams battled hard to get a winner. The teams seemed to take turns in having possession each mounting attacks for a couple of minutes and then the other team taking over. It was looking like it was going to be penalties again as the clock ticked away in the last session of extra time. Then Matt only popped up and scored a great goal to set off wild scenes of jubilation of the touch line, they boys played out the last minute and secured the win.

At the beginning of the day 14 teams entered the Southdown Fiesta and at the end Perrywood Eagles were the winners, all the boys and parents were so very proud.

I can honestly say that all the boys played out of their skins all day, and ran their socks off during what was a very hot April day. The boys up front scored some great goals, I am not sure what happened in the other group but in the B group we had the best goal difference by a long shot. With the games being short in duration and very competitive most games were either draws or 1-0 wins, so to get a couple of 3-0's and a 2-0's that is good going. Also what was very good to see was that through out the whole day we did not concede a single goal from open play - not bad eh!

So that's the first bit of silver ware for the cabinet, and another six Fiesta's are on the schedule for this year - bring it on.

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  1 v 1  Horley Town Eagles

April 1st 2007 - League

Squad: Jake, Owen, Josh, Daniel.DK, Ryan, Max, Daniel.DS, Leonardo

Goal Scorers: OG

The Golden Eagles again featured in the second game of the day. As there was a full quota of Golden Eagles and James had already played in the first game, he was given a rest for this one.

Perrywood probably edged the play in the first few minutes but neither side had any clear cut chances. Then Max whipped in a good corner which deflected in off a Horley Town defender for 1-0 Perrywood. The Golden Eagles continued to boss the game but still could not add to the scores and the play began to look scrappy.

This continued into the second half, the boys were bunching, not talking and not really passing that well. Saying that Horley Town were not really all over us but were getting us on the counter attack. Jake pulled off a good save to keep us in it, but that was really the only save he had to make during the game. The Eagles were obviously missing the presence of James.H and then in the dying seconds we were caught too far up the pitch trying to score another goal instead of defending our lead. We were punished as Horley broke as we could not get back in time and Jake had little chance in goal, final score 1-1.

It was a bit of a frustrating game because I don't think Horley did enough for the point, but we really didn't threaten that much either. The boys need to talk more, put their foot on the ball, look up and pass, and when needed run back. Everyone loves to charge forward and try to score but we have to learn to charge back and defend to.

I know they can do it because we have all seen them do it, and they have played a lot better than they did today. Next time out they have a tough game so lets hope so :)

Man of the Match: Jake

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  7 v 0 Crawley Down White

April 1st 2007 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Josh, James, Joe, James, Matt,

Goal Scorers: Joe (3), Matt (2), James (2)

George was still missing for this game, along with Jack.D and Benjamin, so James.H and Josh stepped in to help out.

Perrywood had all the early pressure, and when the Crawley Down keeper split a shot from Matt, Joe was on hand to smash in the rebound, 1-0 Perrywood. Then Matt went on another run, looked up and crossed to Joe whose shot was saved by the keeper and Matt slotted in the loose ball, 2-0 Perrywood. Crawley did try to counter but on one of these attacks Adam stepped in and then played a great ball out to Matt who ran past one defender, then round the keeper and neatly placed it in for 3-0.

The fourth of the game and first of the second half was scored by Joe, who latched onto a cross come shot at the back post and converted easily. James.H scored number 5 after sliding in on the keeper as the ball rolled around on the line. James scored again after Matt had rounded the keeper and shot across goal, when James nipped in and hit the ball into the net. The final goal was scored by Joe (making it his hat trick), Matt played in the corner, the ball bounced around in the area Joe headed it forward and Joe lashed in a volley giving the keeper no chance. Final score 7-0 Perrywood.

Man of the Match: Matt

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  3 v 0  Ifield Edwards Red

March 25th 2007 - League

Squad: Jake, Owen, Josh, Daniel.DK, Ryan, James, Leonardo

Goal Scorers: Leonardo (2), James

For the second game of the day the Golden Eagles were playing Ifield Edwards Red, and for this one on the request from the Ifield coach we played 8-a-side instead of the normal 7. I think even with just one extra player this led to the pitch being over crowded and both teams were bunching and being a bit scrappy. Leonardo scored first with a well guided header from a Max corner, 1-0 Perrywood. Max broke again down the right and crossed a good ball into the centre, James slid in and scored to make it 2-0.

Another Max corner lead to the third, for this one Daniel.DK got a knock on at the front stick and Leonardo ran in at the back to knock it in.

Although Perrywood had all the play in the second half the boys could not add to the scoring, and Jake was rarely troubled in goal. I must say that I thought some of the Ifield tackling had been some of the worst I had seen this year. I lost count on the number of times one of our boys was hacked from behind, and sometimes it was really bad and often by the same player. I was very pleased that all our boys conducted themselves very well and just  got on with the game.

Man of the Match: Daniel.DK

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  3 v 0 Horley Town Falcons

March 25th 2007 - League

Squad: Jack, James, Jack, Adam, Joe, Matt, Benjamin

Goal Scorers: Matt (2), O.G

George was still missing for this one but hopefully he will be back in a couple of weeks.

Perrywood started this game the brighter but could not manage to score straight away. Matt broke through on goal but his shot was saved by the keeper, then another shot went just wide. Horley did try to fight back but the Perrywood back line held firm, then once again Matt broke and this time the keeper was no match for him as he made it 1-0 Perrywood.

Benjamin went close to adding to the score in the second half but his shot struck the post and the rebound was saved by the keeper. Jack.D also struck the cross bar and went close again from a free kick. The Eagles did make it 2-0 when Matt whipped in a corner and this was headed into the Horley net by one of the defenders. Perrywood had the lions share of the second half, and this paid off when Benjamin went on a good run down the right beating several players, he was just about to shoot/cross when he was hacked from behind. Matt took the free kick and converted it nicely over the keeper, to make the final score 3-0 Perrywood.

Man of the Match: Jack.D

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  7 v 0 Ifield Edwards white

March 18th 2007 - League

Squad: Jack, James, Jack, Adam, Joe, Max, Benjamin

Goal Scorers: Matt (3), Jack.D, Benjamin (2) , James

Well the sun managed to stay out for the second game, which made a nice change, although there was a cutting wind. Both of the Perrywood teams had played Ifield Edwards Whites before and managed some big scores, but it looked clear from the kick-off that they had made some changes in their team as they did offer some resistance. It took the a while before the Eagles managed to break this, Matt was chopped midway into the Whites half and dusted himself off to take the free-kick. One which he struck nicely over the keeper and into the roof of the net, the scoring had begun. The next goal was scored by Jack.D as Perrywood were camped out in the Whites half. For the third Matt broke down the wing and whipped in a cross come shot and Benjamin was on hand at the back post to knock it home. Benjamin scored again for number four after a good run by Joe.

Goal number five came in the second half when James put Matt through to score. Matt got his hat trick when he broke through on goal but was chopped down on the edge of the box. He got up swiftly and as the ref called play on he smashed the ball home for 6-0. The Perrywood goal was never really under any threat and Jack.F was out on the pitch causing havoc, knowing that Adam was there to clear up any danger. James got on the score sheet after pouncing on a rebound from Benjamin's shot, the game ended with a final score of 7-0.

Man of the Match: Matt

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  4 v 1  Lindfield Black

March 18th 2007 - League

Squad: Jake, Owen, Josh, Daniel.DS, Ryan, James, Matt

Goal Scorers: James (3), Matt

The Eagles had played Lindfield Black twice before and won both times (3-1 and 3-0) but this time they were without Max, Leonardo and Daniel.DK, so Matt had to cover up front.

Perrywood came racing out of the blocks and scored within the first minute of the game. James ran through the centre, played in Matt, whose shot was saved by the keeper but the rebound was smashed home by James, 1-0 Perrywood.  For the second goal Josh broke up the play in the middle of the park and laid it off to Matt, it looked like Matt had left it too late as he ran wide of the goal, but he cut it back in and under the advancing keeper, 2-0 Perrywood and that was how the first half ended.

James opened the scoring in the second half to make it 3-0 with a good solo run through the Lindfield half before slotting it home. Lindfield did not threaten the Perrywood goal that many occasions but they did score on the break and Josh was faced with a three on one situation. Immediately from the kick off James broke ran though the Lindfield team and resumed the three goal advantage, and that is how it finished 4-1 Perrywood.

Man of the Match: James

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  4 v 1  Maidenbower Blues

March 11th 2007 - League

Squad: Jake, Owen, Josh, Daniel.DS, Ryan, James, Joe, Benjamin

Goal Scorers: Daniel.DK, Daniel.DS, O.G, Ryan

Max was missing from the team today, as was Leonardo so Matt stepped in to help cover in the first half. The team started well and within a short time they had take the lead, James whipped in a good corner, Daniel.DK arrived at the back post, the ball seemed to strike him in the stomach and then as it dropped he struck it home for 1-0. For the next five minutes or so Perrywood had a lot of the play but could not add to the score. Then Maidenbower went on the attack but it went out for a goal kick, and from this Maidenbower intercepted and scored the equaliser.

For the second half Ryan came on to replace Joe (who had come on for Matt) . James played a good ball up field to Daniel.DS.  The keeper rushed out but Daniel flicked the ball past him and delicately into the goal for 2-1. Maidenbower sensed it was all or nothing and seemed to throw everything forward but the Golden Eagles managed to keep them out, and to be honest their goal was rarely under threat, but just to make sure Benjamin was brought on to add to the attack. Within seconds of coming on he was through against the keeper, who he rounded, but could only find the post with his shot. Then as the ball rebounded across the goal it struck a defender and deflected into the goal for 3-1. Benjamin had another couple of attempts but could not add to the score, and it was Ryan who made it 4 with a good long range effort. James from a throw picked out Ryan just outside of the Maidenbower area, and as the ball dropped to the floor Ryan struck it and the ball went op and over the goal keeper for 4-1.

Man of the Match: James

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  3 v 2 Lindfield Green

March 11th 2007 - League

Squad: Jack, James, Adam, James, Max, George, Benjamin

Goal Scorers: Joe, Benjamin (2)

Well the sun was out for this game which made a huge difference to the previous week. The Eagles were without Jake.D but Joe was back from his holidays so there was just about enough players.

The Eagles had played the team from Lindfield in the very first game of the season and that game ended 5-2 to Perrywood. We had seen then play a few times since then and it looked like they had improved.  The boys started well and were quickly on the attack especially Joe who broke down the right and managed to find Benjamin in the centre who finished with his usual flare 1-0 perrywood.  Within minutes Lindfield had equalised from a corner kick that was not dealt with and the game was on.

The second half started how the first finished with the play being a bit scrappy and neither team having a clear opening, then as Perrywood seemed to be getting on top Lindfield scored and took the lead. It was from another corner that the boys failed to clear, the ball seemed to bounce around in the area for ever and no one could clear it until Lindfield smashed it into the net. The boys didn't give up and Joe scored with a stunning strike to draw the Eagles level, he turned and hit it on the half volley into the top right corner, a real corker. Sensing a win they pushed forward and up popped Benjamin who scored again to take the Eagles into the lead. Even with the ref playing an extra 3 minutes Lindfield could not get back on level terms and Perrywood finished 3-2 winners.

Just putting the scores on the front page of the website I see that the last goal of the game (scored by Benjamin) was the 100th league goal scored by the Eagles this year.

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  0 v 0  Maidenbower Whites

March 4th 2007 - League

Squad: Jake, Owen, Josh, Max, Daniel.DS, Ryan, James, James

Goal Scorers:

Well the poor weather continued for this game, and the boys that helped out in the first game were a already wet and cold, as well as tired but they soldiered on. Leonardo and Daniel.DS were not playing and Ryan was late arriving so James.G stayed and helped the Golden Eagles out.

All of the boys played extremely well for this game, and only the parents that stayed know how bad the conditions were. I think during the first half the play was probably 50/50, but in the second half we really dominated and I am not sure how we did not score. Jake was not really troubled in either half, but especially in the 2nd we we were camped in the Maidenbower half. I think every boy had a shot on goal but no one could find the back of the net, and the game finished 0-0.

Man of the Match: Josh

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  0 v 0  Maidenbower Reds

March 4th 2007 - League

Squad: Jack, Jack, James, Adam, James, Max, George

Goal Scorers:

Well it was a very wet start to the day as the heavens opened over the Crawley area, and in a way in was a good thing that we were not playing on grass.

The team were without Benjamin, Matt and Joe, so James and Max were called up to help. Maidenbower reds are one of the top teams in the league (they drew with southdown panthers and beat southdown pumas 4-0!) so it was going to be a tough match.

The boys played very well and more than matched the team from maidenbower over all parts of the pitch, and this was probably why the game ended with a 0-0 draw. Neither keeper was over worked, for sure there were the odd chances for either team but no one could take the advantage.  Although Perrywood probably edged the possession in the second half a draw was probably a fair result in what was a hard fought game in atrocious weather.

Man of the Match: Adam

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  1 v 1  Oakwood

February 25th 2007 - League

Squad: Jack, Jack, James, Adam, George, Matt, Joe, James

Goal Scorers: Benjamin

I must admit I was not really organised for this one and did not make any notes, I can say that it was a good tuff game and the boys made a good account of themselves. Oakwood took the lead in the first half was a unstoppable freekick, it really was an amazing strike and went in off the crossbar. Perrywood cane back into it in the second half and Benjamin scored a good goal to equalise. It looked like the Eagles were going to nick it in the last few minutes of the game but it was not to be. The game finished 1-1.

Man of the Match: Jack.D

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  0 v 2  Southdown Panthers

February 18th 2007 - League

Squad: Jake, Josh, Owen, Max, Daniel.DS, Ryan, James, Daniel.DK, Leonardo

Goal Scorers:

Ok for this game I was absent, so many thanks for Tom (Jakes brothers) for the match report.

For the first time in a while all of the Golden Eagles were there for the game. Jake had returned from injury, Owen was better and James and Daniel DK were back from holiday at the right time.

The first half was kind of just smooth playing, with both teams playing well. Jakes made some good saves and Josh did some good defending.

Then came the second half when the action really started. Very early on a Southdown player had a really hard shot that went smack into the goal 1-0 SD. The next major event was when a southdown player tried to kick the ball but instead got Owen's nose (Ouch!). A bit later a Southdown player intercepted a Perrywood goal kick and passed to another that scored and that made it 2-0 Southdown, and that was the final score.

I would just like to add to that a well done to all the boys. Southdown Panthers are the No.1 team in the League and they have not lost all season long. I know a defeat is never a good thing, but this was quite a good result really. This was all the Golden Eagles work, there was no Eagles in the team, so this is what could be if the boys knuckle down and work hard. I did manage to see a bit of this game and it wasn't that we were under the kosh all the time and we did have several good attacks.

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  1 v 1  Southdown Pumas

February 11th 2007 - League

Squad: Jack, Jack, James, Adam, George, Matt, Joe

Goal Scorers: Joe

Next up was the Eagles and they were against Southdown Pumas, who are the second team from the Southdown club, and as we know from previous encounters there are no easy games against Southdown.

Perrywood started slowly and Southdown were putting on the pressure, and came close a number of times, with one effort hitting the post. Once the boys did get up and running they began to look very lively, and it was Perrywood who scored first. Jack.D passed down the line to Matt, who ran at the Southdown defence, crossed to Benjamin who was unable to get a shot off, but Joe pounced to make it 1-0. Southdown did not lie down with this and came forward again. They won a free kick just into the Perrywood half, which was stuck against the Eagles wall, but then the rebound was smashed home in off a deflection for 1-1.

In the second half Matt almost got his name on the score sheet, after a great run down the right, passing a couple of southdown players on the way, and shot a thunderous shot which was only just wide of the post. For the rest of the second half most of the pressure came from Perrywood but they did not really have any clear efforts on goal, southdown played on the counter attack, and did this very well and although had less of the ball probably had the best efforts on goal. The game ended a well fought 1-1.

Man of the Match: Joe

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  3 v 0  Southdown Lions

February 11th 2007 - League

Squad: Jack, Josh, Max, Daniel.DS, Ryan, Jack.D, Joe, James

Goal Scorers: Max (2), O.G

Ok for this game the Golden Eagles were missing a whole host of players (James and Daniel were on holiday, Owen was ill, Jake had an injury and Leonardo was unavailable) so Joe, James and Jack.D had to help out on pitch with Jack.F going in goal.

Now I must apologise for this and the following match reports because the batteries had gone in my dictation machine so I didn't record in so much detail.

The first goal went to the Perrywood Eagles with Max taking a long shot that the keeper let go between his legs. Max added a second after Perrywood did some good play round the box and Max shot long and hard across the goal into the bottom left hand corner. I don't think Max could claim the third, he whipped in a corner and a defender headed it backwards towards goal, the keeper managed to get a hand to it but could only push it onto the underside of the bar and in, 3-0 Perrywood. Josh probably should have made it 4 when a Perrywood corner was cleared, he smashed it back in but was just over. To give the boys credit they managed to keep southdown out and Jack did not have too much to do in goal.

Man of the Match: Max

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  3 v 0  Southdown Tigers

February 4th 2007 - League

Squad: Jack, Jack, James, Adam, George, Matt, Joe

Goal Scorers: Matt, Joe (2)

Next up was the Eagles against a team from Southdown so we knew it was going to be a tough test, especially without Benjamin the leading goal scorer.

For the first five minutes it was pretty even with both teams sharing the possession but neither having any clear chances. That changed when Matt broke down the right wing beating two defenders and then cut in towards goal, as he did he was taken out from behind, and a penalty was awarded. Matt stepped up and smashed the ball into the roof of the net for 1-0, blowing away any memories of the pen he missed last week. James picked up the ball on the half way line and played it into Matt who laid it off for James to ran onto, but his shot was smothered by the keeper who was off his line fast, but it was a good move. Joe then made it 2-0 after smashing the ball home as it was crossed from the left. Matt came close after a blinding run from the middle of the park, and he ran past tackle after tackle, but was stopped when the keeper again came out well to cover. From a Jack throw (i think) Joe received the ball on the edge of the box and flicked it with the outside of his right boot and it found the top corner of the net for 3-0.

The second half did not add any more goals to the score but there was some very good play by the boys. The first was when Adam (who was again having a solid performance at the back) laid it off to James, who passed to George, who flicked it up the line to Matt, who ran well down the channel, past one and cut in but could not pick out Joe or George in the middle. The same happened a few minutes later this time Matt was breaking down the right, but once again he could not pick out an orange shirt waiting in the box. On one occasion when Matt did manage the slot the ball through into the middle, the boys waiting there were unable to convert. This was because Southdown team were playing a lot deeper in the second half and defending in numbers in and around their own box. This was a tribute to the amount of attacking pressure our boys had put on them, and because of this Southdown rarely troubled us in attack. The damage had already been done in the first half and the Eagles finished worthy 3-0 winners.

Man of the Match: Matt

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  9 v 0  Three Bridges

February 4th 2007 - League

Squad: Jake, Josh, Owen, Daniel.DK, Max, Leonardo, Daniel.DS

Goal Scorers: Jack, Daniel.DS (4), Max (2), Leonardo, Daniel.DK

For the first game of the day the Golden Eagles were up against the team from Three Bridges. James was away on holiday, Ryan was also absent but Daniel.DS was back, and also Leonardo made an appearance albeit a few minutes late, so Jack.D stood in at right midfield.

It was Jack.D that opened the scoring for the Golden Eagles with a long range thunder bolt from just inside the bridges half, 1-0 Perrywood. Daniel.DS marked his comeback with a goal after some fancy footwork on the edge of the box. The third was scored by Max after receiving the ball from a three bridges goal kick and cracking it back in, and that is how the first half finished.

The second half started the same with Perrywood piling on the pressure, Josh was solid at the back and after breaking up a three bridges attack, looked up and played a lovely ball through to Leonardo (who had come on mid way through the first half). Leonardo turned and shot but the keeper saved well, and even Daniel.DS couldn't knock in the rebound. From the resulting goal kick Max picked up the ball and smashed it back in for number 4 (near identical as his last goal). Then Perrywood intercepted a three bridges throw and max broke down the left, chipped it into the box, where Leonardo was on hand to score number 5. Daniel.DS made it six after dancing his way into the box and slotting it home in of a defender. Max then took a long throw and Daniel.DK was at the back post to knock in number 7. The game was rounded off when Daniel.DS was put in on goal by Leonardo, who in turn calmly dinked it past the keeper. He added his fourth in the last minute of the game and the final score finished 9 - 0 to the Golden Eagles.

Man of the Match: Josh

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  6 v 0  TD Shipley ZW

January 28th 2007 - League

Squad: Jake, Josh, Owen, Daniel.DK, Max, James, Ryan

Goal Scorers: James (3) , Max (2), Daniel.DK

Next up was the Golden Eagles against TD Shipley and once again the Golden Eagles were missing Leonardo and Daniel.DS (Daniel is out with chicken pox so lets hope he is better soon).

The boys as usual came out of the blocks quickly and soon had opened the scoring, Daniel.DK chased down a loose ball and then shot at goal, the keeper saved but spilt it and Daniel pounced to make it 1-0. Max then came close with a long range effort but went over. He then combined very well with James, doing a good one-two and James finished it off with a great shot to make it 2-0. James then became provider with some good play down the right, and then crossed to find Owen coming in at the back to smash home to make it 3-0. Jake then found James with a goal kick, who in turn passed to Max who turned and shot for four. A few times the TD Shipley team did try to counter but Josh, Owen and Daniel were very solid at the back, and when called for Jake was always there.

For the second half there was a bit of a swap round with Ryan taking up position in goal and Jake coming out and playing up front.

Josh took one of the goal kicks picking out Max, who turned and ran towards goal, then laid it off well to James who finished well for number 5, he made it a hat trick moment later after knocking in from within the box and the final score was 6-0 Golden Eagles.

James is off on holiday for the next two weeks, so lets hope some of the other boys are back and the team can continue with the winning streak.

Man of the Match: Owen

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  3 v 1  TD Shipley White

January 28th 2007 - League

Squad: Jack, Jack, James, Adam, George, Matt, Benjamin

Goal Scorers: Matt (2), Benjamin,

Once again both the Perrywood teams found they were up against matching opposition this time from TD Shipley. First up were the Eagles against the Whites from TD, Joe was missing today because of a trip up to old Trafford on Saturday.

For the first five minutes Perrywood had most of the pressure but TD were very solid at the back, and the keeper came out and made some very good saves. The scoring got under way on 7 minutes when George crossed to Matt, who chipped the ball into the top right corner of the goal for 1-0 Perrywood. Matt added to the scoring a few minutes later when sliding in with a left footed effort, which went in off a defender.

TD Shipley started the second half brightly and immediately broke through the Perrywood midfield, Adam came out and made the tackle, but the loose ball fell to the attacker who shot for goal. Jack saved the shot but the ball came out to another striker who slotted it home for 2-1. A few moments later there was a near identical effort from the TD team, with Jack saving and the rebound being fired goal bound, this time James was on the line to clear. The boys did not let this get to them and Jack.D intercepted a goal kick, brought it down well and laid it off to Benjamin who rounded one defender before passing the keeper for 3-1.  The next attack from Perrywood caused a TD Shipley defender to handle in the area and give a penalty away. Matt stepped up to take the spot kick but unfortunately struck it over the bar, and the final score was 3-1 Perrywood

Man of the Match: George

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  6 v 0  Crawley Down Whites

January 21st 2007 - League

Squad: Jake, Josh, Owen, Daniel.DK, Max, James, Matt , Joe, James

Goal Scorers: James (2) , Max (2), Joe, Daniel.DK

For this weekend both teams were playing against opposition from Crawley Town with the Golden Eagles up first. For today's game the team was without Ryan who was poorly and Leonardo and Daniel.DK who were AWOL, so Matt played up front.

The boys started well having all the pressure in the first half, there were a few goal mouth scrambles before Max started the scoring with a long range effort. He almost added to this but the keeper saved well pushing it over the bar. Daniel also had a good attempt but couldn't keep it down and it went over the bar. Matt came close on a few occasions but couldn't find the net. Crawley down tried to break on the counter attack but the defence held out and Jake had a quiet time in goal. The second goal came from a Max corner, the keeper pushed it out only for James to smash back in off a defender for 2-0. Max made it 3-0 him self after a run down the left hand side and a good shot.

Daniel.DK got the scoring under way in the second half to make it 4-0. Joe and James.G had come on for Matt and Max, and after a few minutes the move paid dividends when James.H threw in to James.G who passed to Joe, who turned and volleyed it home. To their credit Crawley Down kept coming at us right to the very end and I think only once did they manage to penetrate the defence, but overran it and the ball went out for a goal kick. James.H finished off the game when he picked up the ball in his own half ran past one and chipped it over the keeper into the corner for 6-0, and that was the final score.

Man of the Match: James.H

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  4 v 0  Crawley Down Reds

January 21st 2007 - League

Squad: James, Adam, Joe, George, Max, Matt, Benjamin

Goal Scorers: O.G, George, Benjamin (2),

For the second game the Eagles were short of a few players with both the Jacks missing. James.G stepped forward and took up the position in goal, Max joined in midfield with Joe and George both dropping into defence. Right from the off you could see that the Eagles were going to have to work hard on this one, as the team from Crawley down passed it around well. Both teams shared the play in the first five minutes and both had opportunities to score, James had to be on his toes in goal to stop Crawley Down going into the lead. For the first goal George had ran forward with the play and found himself in the box when the pass came across and slotted it home for 1-0. For the second goal I don't think it would be possible for Max to claim it as he whipped in a free kick from around the half way line, the defender in an attempt to clear it actually kicked the ball backwards over his head. The keeper came out for it but was caught out by the bounce and it went straight over him and into the net.

Crawley continued to push forward and on a couple of times found their way through on goal, but James was alert to this and came out and saved well. Benjamin added to the scoring to make it 3-0 after a weaving run and a calm finish. He added his second moments later after running at the defence before getting a shot off, the shot was saved, but the keeper spilt it and Benjamin drove it home to make the final score 4-0.

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  4 v 0  Horley Town Eagles

January 14th 2007 - League

Squad: Jack, Jack, Adam, Joe, George, James, Matt, Benjamin

Goal Scorers: Matt (2), Benjamin (2),

For the second game of the day it was the Perrywood Eagles against the other team from Horley Town, the Horley Town Eagles. From the start it looked like the Horley defence was a bit out of shape and Matt and Benjamin were just waiting for the right opportunity to punish them. The chance arose when all of Horley pushed out on the attack and Adam's clearance went over them to Matt, who turned and was through on goal, needless to say he calmly slotted it home into the left corner to make it 1-0 Perrywood Eagles after 5 minutes. Horley didn't seem to learn by this and Benjamin was next to benefit to make it 2-0. Matt scored again before half time to make it 3-0.

The second half started and shortly into it Matt picked up a quick throw in, turned and crossed to Joe, whose shot was saved by the keeper, but Benjamin was on hand to smash home the rebound for 4-0. Horley did seem to tighten up a it at the back and after that things were a bit different, and all of the boys had to work hard to protect the lead, Joe, George and James all battled well and Jack and Adam were solid at the back, and when the need did arise Jack.F was there to clear up any danger. The game finished 4-0 to the Eagles, the Perrywood Eagles.

Man of the Match: Adam

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  6 v 0  Horley Town Falcons

January 14th 2007 - League

Squad: Jake, Josh, Owen, Daniel.DK, Max, James, Ryan

Goal Scorers: James , Max (3), Daniel.DK (2),

Daniel.DS was out with the flu, and Leonardo was also missing, so the Golden Eagles were down to the bare minimum when they came up against Horley town Falcons. The boys got stuck in straight from the off and had all the possession in the opening minutes, and the pressure eventually paid off when James whipped in a corner for Dainel.DK to convert at the front post 1-0 Eagles. Max scored the second after going on a good run down the left past a few players and then hit the ball into the box, it could quite well have been a cross but the ball found its way into the back of the net. Daniel.DK scored before half time in a replica of the first goal, converting at the front post, this time from a max corner, 3-0.

For the second half James was the benefactor of another max corner to make it 4-0, then from the restart max picked it up and ran at the horley defence and slotted home number 5. The last goal was a great goal scored by max after running down the right wing and cracking it from miles out, it rocketed into the top left corner, leaving the keeper stranded. So the final score was a well deserved 6-0 to the Golden Eagles

Man of the Match: Daniel.DK

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  19 v 0  Ifield Edwards White

January 7th 2007 - League

Squad: Jake, Josh, Owen, Daniel.DK, Max, James, Leonardo, Daniel.DS, Matt

Goal Scorers: James (5), Daniel.S (4), Matt (3), Max (3), Daniel.DK, Leonardo, Jake, Josh

It had been a bit of a long and wet wait between the two games and I know Dickie and myself were keen to get the second game underway, but I don't think either of us expected it to start as quickly as it did, I think I timed it at around 10 or 11 seconds when James scored the first goal! After that it turned into an interesting game, I wont describe all the goals otherwise I will be here all day. The second was scored by Max, then James, another from James, by now we sensed it was going to be easy and Jake had been told to push out, in fact he came out so far that he scored number 5. Number 6 was scored by Leonardo, 7 was Max after some good work by Josh and Leonardo, and James rounded off the half with number 8.

It continued into the second half with goals from Max, then Daniel.S made it 10, 11 was scored by Matt who had came on for the second half. Daniel.DK scored number 12 with a nice back heel. 13 was Matt, 14 Matt, 15 Daniel.S, 16 Josh, 17 Daniel.S, 18 James, Daniel.S rounded it all off for 19-0! I think that is what the score was anyway, the goals did come very fast and I might have missed one, so if anyone has any more then please let me know.

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  8 v 0  Ifield Edwards Red

January 7th 2007 - League

Squad: Jack, Josh, Jack, Adam, Joe, James, Matt,

Goal Scorers: Matt (3), Jack.D (2), Jack.F, James (2),

For this game Benjamin was not available and George was sick so Josh was called into the squad at the last minute, and the boys got off to a good winning start to the league in 2007. The boys started well as usual and had lots of the opening pressure. The first goal came when Joe went on a run down the right crossed the ball and Jack.D was on hand to smash it home for 1-0. Matt then came close after getting the ball from the restart, his effort just hitting the post. He did manage to score his first when he picked up an Ifield throw, took a few steps and then drilled it home for 2-0. Jack.D made it 3-0 when he received the ball from an Ifield goal kick and cracked it back in. Joe had been battling well in midfield and Josh had been relishing the extra freedom which allowed him push forward, knowing the Adam was behind him putting in another solid performance.

The second half followed the same pattern but now Josh had taken over in goal and Jack.F was out on pitch. James had taken on-board the coaches comments from the half time talk and immediately added to the scoring to make it 4-0. Jack.D almost made it 5 with a good free kick after Joe was felled, but the keeper saved well with his head! Then Jack.F had a goal disallowed for hand ball, but Matt made sure it was 5-0 after a very good run, past a few defenders and shot home with his left foot. James made it 6 when Jack.D whipped in a good cross from the right. Matt scored again for 7, and Jack.F sealed off a good game with a goal on his birthday to make it 8 and take the man on the match award.

Man of the Match: Jack.F

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  5 v 1  Lindfield Black

December 17th 2006 - League

Squad: Jack, Jack, Adam, Joe, James, Matt, Benjamin

Goal Scorers: Matt (2), Benjamin (2), Joe

The Eagles continued their impressive winning streak with a good victory over another team from the Lindfield club. Matt got the scoring under way with a well struck shot low into the right hand corner 1-0 Perrywood. Next on the score was Benjamin who picked up the ball ran past one defender and the flicked the keeper for 2-0. The boys then had a series of chances, one hit the post, one was cleared off the line by a defender and a good save by the keeper. Then James crossed towards goal and the ball dropped in front of the keeper, and Matt slid in to make it number 3. The Lindfield keeper saved well again when Joe picked up the ball just inside the box and smashed it towards goal around head high, and the keeper just got both his hands to it to stop it going in. To be honest the keeper was playing out of his skin and if it wasn't for him it could have quite easily been 9 or 10 by now.

Joe did manage to get on the score sheet in the second half when he broke down the right and then cracked in a shot from a way out, low and hard into the bottom left corner, 4-0. Benjamin scored number five with a good run, twisting left and right, past a couple of defenders and then smashing it goal bound, the keeper got his hand to it but the shot was so hard that it still found it was into the net. As the boys pushed further up in search of more goals they were open to the counter attack but Adam was solid at the back and cleared his line well. Lindfield did manage to get a consolidation goal when three of them broke and ran through against Jack, Jack did try to come out to narrow the angle, but the Lindfield attacker managed to chip it over him for a good goal, 5-1. Moments later Benjamin once again shot for goal but was saved by the keeper, the ball came out to Joe who struck it back in only to hit Matt on the goal line and they cleared again, the ball came out to Jack.D who struck just wide. Perrywood had a few more efforts but none of them could find the back of the net and the game finished 5-1.

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  1 v 0  Lindfield Green

December 17th 2006 - League

Squad: Jake, Josh, Owen, Ryan, Daniel.DK, Max, James, Daniel.DS

Goal Scorers: Daniel.DK

It was a frosty start to the day when the Golden Eagles played their last game for 2006 and they were looking to end the recent run or poor form. To be honest although the boys have lost a few games, most of them have been close ones, and they have not been drubbed by anyone. The Eagles had played Lindfield Green before and won 5-2 but Lindfield were only one of two team that managed to score past them, so we knew it wasn't going to be easy.

Saying that when the game started all of the pressure seemed to be coming from Perrywood. Jake after his good spell in goal last week was once again in goal, Ryan was out in defence, Leonardo was a no show, so Max and James were in midfield with Daniel.DK up front.

Perrywood had a series of early effort and lots of corners, but nothing to really trouble the goalkeeper. Eventually the pressure paid off when Max whipped a cross into the box and Daniel.DK was at hand to thump it home for 1-0 Eagles (and that's how the first half finished).

The second half was much the same story with Perrywood camped in the Lindfield half, they did managed to break out once and get past the defence but Daniel.DS raced back to get in a good challenge. The boys continued to have the lions share of the possession but could not add to their score, at times they ran into each other and went for the same ball, hopefully as they get more familiar which each others play then this will happen less. Lindfield did manage to counter on several occasions but the defence was pretty solid and Jake was rarely troubled in goal, a great end to the year.

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  7 v 0  Maidenbower Blue

December 10th 2006 - League

Squad: Jack, Jack, Adam, Joe, James, Matt, George, Benjamin

Goal Scorers: James, Joe (3), Benjamin (3)

The Golden Eagles has played and won against Maidenbower Blues earlier in the season so it looked good for the Eagles.

Joe got the boys off and running with a good break down the right hand wing, he crossed towards Matt who's shot was saved by the keeper, but the ball fell to James who smashed it into the roof of the net for 1-0 Eagles. Benjamin then latched on to a MB goal kick, drifted wide and then crossed for Joe to slide in for number 2. The third was scored after the keeper got his hands on a free kick from Jack, but he could not hold onto the ball and Benjamin was there at the back post to slot it home. Benjamin scored immediately after that, picking the ball up from just inside the MB half, he ran past the defender and beat the keeper one on one to make it 4-0 Eagles. Benjamin scored again an almost identical goal to make it 5. Joe scored a screamer from well outside the area which flew into the top corner of the goal ending the half 6-0.

The second half was a bit strange with Jack pushing out of goal, and Perrywood were camped out in the Maidenbower half. Everybody was pushing forward trying to get some of the ball and to score another goal, but even with all the pressure and seeing all of the ball the boys were out of shape and could only add one other goal to the scores. This was scored by Joe going on a nice run past one then cutting inside and striking it home with his left foot. The final score being 7-0 to Perrywood.

Man of the Match: Benjamin

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  0 v 2  Maidenbower Reds

December 10th 2006 - League

Squad: Jake, Josh, Owen, Daniel.DK, Max, James, Leonardo, Daniel.DS

Goal Scorers:

Ryan was missing for this game, so Jake took over his position in goal. Leonardo and Daniel.DS made a surprised and welcomed return to the team. We all knew that the game against Maidenbower Reds was going to be tough as we had watched some of their previous games and some of their boys were very big, it was clear to see that the REDs were the top team from Maidenbower.

The game kicked off and for the first five minutes each team took turns in attacking but neither team really troubled any keeper, but the deadlock was broken with a RED attack, the first shot was well saved by Jake but the rebound was drilled home for 1-0 Maidenbower, and that is how the first half finished.

In the second half Perrywood had a few long range efforts (from Max) but he could not manage to find the target. Then Maidenbower had some pressure of their own with a series of corners, the last was cleared only to struck back in from well outside the area, it was a very good shot and Jake really had no chance in goal. For the remainder of the half the boys dug in and tried to counter but it wasn't really happening for them and they rarely troubled the Maidenbower keeper, saying that apart from the two goals Jake didn't really have a lot to do. Hopefully if all the boys can make the next few games then they can get used to playing with each other and get a better understand of where they should be.

Man of the Match: Max

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  3 v 0  Maidenbower White

December 3rd 2006 - League

Squad: Jack, Jack, Adam, Joe, James, Matt, George, Benjamin

Goal Scorers: Jack, Matt (2)

The Eagles welcomed back George into the fold after a while out sick, but were without Benjamin for this game, which started off slowly.

In fact the fist few minutes were a bit scrappy as both teams tried to settle. Joe picked up the ball from well within his own half and went on one of his charging runs though to goal but the ball just managed to run away before he could get a shot off. Jack.D then picked up the ball from a throw, turned and struck a good shot just wide. Then seconds later found the target with a similar effort but the keeper managed to save it after a bit of a juggle, and the first half ended a surprising 0-0.

I am not sure if Dickie smashed a few tea cups during the half time talk but a different team seemed to come out for the second half. Matt picked up the ball from near the half way line and ran at the MB defence, he skipped past one and then was through against the keeper and calmly slotted into the corner of the net 1-0 Perrywood. Then another Perrywood attack was lead out by Matt who beat one and then had great vision to square it to Jack who smashed home the second. Mattie was well up for it now and picked up the ball from the restart and ran through the Maidenbower team but this time could only find the post. Perrywood scored a third and it was like watching a replay with Matt running from midfield through the opposing team, past the last defender and slotted it home. Maidenbower did have an attack that looked goal bound for a moment before Jack.F dived across to push it wide and preserve a clean sheet. When the boys did attack they looked very dangerous and there was often a line of four charging out on the offensive. The last few minutes it was all Perrywood, and James almost scored but the MB goal keeper pulled of a great diving save. So it ended 3-0 Perrywood.

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  0 v 1  Oakwood

December 3rd 2006 - League

Squad: Ryan, Josh, Owen, Daniel.DK, Jake, Max, James

Goal Scorers:

Leonardo was serving another 2 week suspension imposed by his parents, and Daniel.S was AWOL, so it was down to the bare bones for this game, with Oakwood coming into this game with a big reputation. The boys were unfazed by this and put in a excellent performance and went for it right from the off, with Max trying his luck from distance. Then another effort stuck a defender and deflected just wide for a corner, and James went close from the corner but still it was 0-0. Oakwood then came close with a corner that was whipped in and the attacker headed the ball against the cross bar, but Perrywood broke and went close with a chance of their own. Oakwood tried to push forward but the whole team was playing well and tackling hard, Josh and Owen were being solid at the back against a very strong Oakwood attack. Max struck just wide again after another Perrywood break, and Perrywood were seeing plenty of the ball as the first half ended 0-0.

Oakwood came out in the second and poured on the pressure with a couple of good corners, but the boys managed to hold them off, and had their share of attacks with Jake and Max running well in midfield.

It was only with a few minutes left on the clock that Oakwood did score with a good effort from outside the box. The Eagles almost grabbed an equaliser straight back with Daniel.DK striking very well low and to the right, but the Oakwood goalkeeper pulled off a good save and forced it out for a corner. It was really an very good performance by the boys against a well regarded team, and we can only wonder what it would have been like if we had had our Portuguese contingent!

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  3 v 0  PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES

November 26th 2006 - League

Eagles Squad: Jack, Jack, James, Adam, Joe, Matt, Benjamin

Golden Eagles Squad: Ryan, Josh, Owen, Daniel.DK, Jake, Max, James Leonardo

Eagles Goal Scorers: Matt, Benjamin (2)

Ok for this weekends game the teams played either other in an all Perrywood contest, the Eagles were without George and the Golden Eagles were missing Daniel.S up front. The game started off slowly, and was mainly being played in midfield with no team have any early chances. The Golden Eagles were to have the first chance by Jake but the shot was pushed past the post by Jack in goal for a Golden Eagle corner. Joe then broke for the Eagles from well within his own half and ran through the midfield, Josh tried to come across and cover but Joe was moving to fast and raced past him, then as Ryan came out of goal to try and stop him Joe shot/cross and Benjamin was on hand to knock it in for 1-0 Eagles. The Eagles applied a it more pressure and had a few corners but the Golden Eagles stood firm and had some chances of their own with Leonardo looking very lively, and Max trying his luck from distance. The first half ended 1-0 to the Eagles but probably more of the attacking play had gone to the Golden Eagles.

The second half started much the same with it going from end to end but with no real clear cut chances, until Matt scored from a long range effort low into the corner, to make it 2-0. The rain started but it did not dampen the boys spirits and it was the Golden Eagles that were putting on the pressure with a series of corners and throw in the Eagles half, but none could be converted into a goal. Instead it was the Eagles who scored again with Benjamin striking from distance and the ball finding its way into the net for 3-0. The Golden Eagles continued to go forward, but Adam defended well and even from another corner the Golden Eagles could not open their scoring.

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  1 v 5  Southdown Panthers

November 19th 2006 - League

Squad: Jack, James, Adam, Jack, Joe, Matt, James.H, Josh

Goal Scorers: Matt

Well right from the start we knew that both teams were going to be in for tough games as they played teams from the Southdown club again.

The Eagles were without Benjamin their leading goal scorer and George their midfield engine, so James was called up to help out.

The boys started well and tried to push on the attack, but it was a break from a Perrywood throw that Southdown opened the scoring, they broke and struck the post and then pounced on the rebound to make it 1-0 Southdown. Southdown began to pour on the pressure and broke again but Jack came out and stood firm to pull off a solid save, the boys battled well and the first half finished 1-0 Southdown.

For the second half Josh made an expected appearance as he came on for Jack.D who had been carrying an injury. The half started as the first one ended with Southdown pushing forward, and a Southdown attack down the line and a well placed cross  was turned into the Perrywood net by James.G 2-0 SD.  The boys tried hard to fight back and Matt was put in by a good throw and he turned and lashed home for 2-1. Any chance of a comeback was shortly snuffed out when a SD throw was not really closed down and they crossed from the wing and headed in for 3-1. The boys did have a few good attacks and almost scored again but James could only head over from a well worked corner. SD then broke, and again from an unchallenged throw scored the 4th. Again they broke, shot at goal but was spilt by Jack and then SD converted from the rebound for 5, and that's how it finished. It goes to say that the Southdown Panther were a very good side, well organised and well disciplined.

Man of the Match: James

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  2 v 3  Southdown Pumas

November 19th 2006 - League

Squad: Ryan, Josh, Owen, Daniel.DK, Jake, Max, Daniel.S, Leonardo

Goal Scorers: Daniel.S (2)

The Golden Eagles played the other team from Southdown and were looking for revenge, Leonardo was back in the Team after three weeks out but James was rested after playing for the Eagles.

The lads started ok and both teams had chances, but were soon pinned back in their on half as Southdown had a series of corner kicks. It looked like the pressure was off when the Eagles had a goal kick, but the ball came straight back in and S.D scored for 1-0. The boys tried to raise their game and had the ball in the S.D half for a good few minutes but then SD broke, picked up a free kick on the edge of our box and smashed home for 2-0 and that is how the first half ended.

Some of the boys were playing in different positions and were still trying to get to grips with it when the second half started. A Perrywood goal kick was picked up buy Southdown and was driven home to make 3-0. The boys did not give up and pushed on, and Jake went through on goal but could not get a shot off as the ball ran out of play. This spurred the boys on and at last their efforts paid off as Daniel.S scored to get one back, then a few moments later he scored again to make it 3-2 and it looked like Perrywood pressure all the way. Then in the dying seconds the Eagles got a corner, the ball rattled around in the Southdown box before going out for another corner, could and equaliser by coming, but possibly feeling the pressure the ref blew up for full time :)

The boys battled hard and played a lot better in the second half, but still were vulnerable to the counter attack at the back and it was obvious that they missed James from the team.

Man of the Match: Daniel.S

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  2 v 0  Southdown Lions

November 12th 2006 - League

Squad: Jack, James, Adam, Jack, Joe, Matt, George, Benjamin

Goal Scorers: Joe, Benjamin

The Eagles started off the day with the first game against a team from Southdown, we had watched some teams from Southdown before and they looked like they would be a tough test for the boys.

Saying all that the Eagles as usual started brightly and went close with a couple of early chances. The first goal came when Jack.D whipped in a corner and Joe met the ball in the box, it looked like the ball hit him on the side but still crossed the line, 1-0 Perrywood. The Eagles continued to pile on the pressure with Joe battling well in midfield, Matt fired off a shot but was saved well by the Southdown keeper. Benjamin then ran past two defenders and struck it towards goal but again was saved by the keeper. Matt then hit wide from a long range effort. Southdown tried to counter but Adam was very solid at the back with some good defending. Benjamin then broke from within his own half and cut through the southdown team, and found himself through on the keeper with Matt and George alongside but could only find the keeper, who was playing well in the southdown goal.

The second half started with two good efforts from Matt and Jack but still the second goal eluded the Eagles. Matt picked out Joe from a throw who crossed to Benjamin who turned and struck just wide of goal. Joe then chased after a lost ball, managed to keep the ball in (just), ran down the wing, passed one and then crossed it to Benjamin who hit home for the second. Whenever Southdown tried to attack either the Perrywood midfield or Adam at the back cleared up any danger and Jack in goal rarely had anything to do. Perrywood continued to push forward and there were some good efforts by Matt and Benjamin but Southdown managed to keep them out somehow.

Man of the Match: Adam

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  1 v 2  Southdown Tigers

November 12th 2006 - League

Squad: Ryan, Josh, Owen, James, Jake, Max, Daniel.DK, Daniel.S

Goal Scorers: Daniel.S

The Golden Eagles also played a team from the Southdown Club and right from the off it was clear to see that this was going to be another tough game. Again missing from the squad was Leonardo who is serving out a suspension from his parents. The boys started off well with a couple of long range effort from Max and James, but Southdown were also coming forward and putting on the pressure, and went wide with a long range effort of their own. After surviving a Southdown corner Perrywood broke and there was some good combination play between Max and James who linked up with Daniel.S who smashed the ball into to roof of the net, 1-0 Perrywood. The boys went closed again from a Max corner when ther was a goal mouth scramble but the ball just wouldn't go in. A quick throw from James again put Perrywood in and Daniel.D-K got a good shot off but was claimed well by the keeper after the ball struck a defender. James went close with an effort by himself but could only find the side netting. Southdown had a couple of attacks of their own and the Eagles defence was exposed on several occasions as players failed to track back. Then a Southdown  throw was not cleared by Perrywood on the edge of the box and was hit by the Southdown attacker, the ball bounced up and went past Ryan in goal for the equaliser.

The second half started with lots of Southdown pressure, Perrywood for some reason could not keep the ball for more than a few passes and had lost their shape and discipline. Southdown had the possession but did not really threaten Ryan's goal on too many occasions, but then an effort from the edge of the box struck Josh on the arm as he tried to protect his face from the ball, and a penalty was awarded, which Southdown converted for 2-1. The Golden Eagles struggled to regain their composure and a few of the boys were getting caught out of position, as Southdown looked to extend their lead. Max made a good run and linked up with James who struck well but was saved by the SD goalkeeper. Max and James had further efforts on goal but neither could find the net to draw the game level, and the whistle brought the game to and end and the first defeat for the Golden Eagles. I think overall the boys had more chances and probably more of the ball but were let down by some poor marking. Lets hope that the boys can get their game together for next weeks game which is against another team from southdown.

Man of the Match: Daniel.D-K

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  13 v 0  Three Bridges Youth

November 5th 2006 - League

Squad: Jack, James, Adam, Jack, Joe, Matt, George, Benjamin

Goal Scorers: Matt (5), Joe (2), Jack.F, Benjamin (2), George (2), James

Perrywood started well with lots of early pressure. Matt came close with an early effort, only for the keeper to save it. Then from the corner taken by Jack the ball struck the hand of a Three Bridges player and a penalty was awarded. Matt stepped up and smashed  home 1-0.

Jack.D then struck the bar from a long way out, the rebound fell to Matt who set-up Benjamin for 2-0.

Three Bridges tried to attack from the restart from Matt intercepted and once again put in Benjamin who converted for number 3.

Matt scored again after a good solo run to make it 4-0.

Moment later Matt hit the bar, before George turned on a throw from Jack and tipped it over the keeper for 5-0

Three Bridges tried to come out with all guns blazing in the second half but were clearly punching above their weight, as Matt latched onto a pass from George to make it 6-0. Then from kick off he got the ball ran through the T.B team and placed it in the bottom corner for 7.

Jack.F once again decided he had enough of eing in goal and came out for a spell on pitch with Adam taking over in goal.

A goalmouth scramble in the T.B area led to the next goal with Joe picking up the ball, his first touch let him down but he charged after the ball, the keeper had one hand on it but Joe slide in and knocked the ball home for 8.

Jack.F’s spell out on pitch once again paid dividends as he scored and made it 9-0.

Then Joe scored again from a long range effort 10-0. Matt scored again for 11 with a well timed goal, the 12th was a bit of a scramble with both Jack.F and James kicked the ball at the same time but the goal was given to James.

George rounded up a fine display with number 13, so the final score 13-0 Perrywood.

Man of the Match: Matt

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  2 v 1  TD Shipley White

November 5th  2006 - League

Squad: Jack, Ryan, Josh, Owen, James, Jake, Max, Daniel.DK

Goal Scorers: Max, James

The Golden Eagles were the second game of the day, and both the Portuguese contingent were missing, Ryan was also a bit late so Jack hand to stand-in for goalie.

Both side looked lively from the off, but it was Perrywood who had the first attack with the TD goalie saving well from Max. In the next encounter Max came of best after a long range effort hit the back of the net 1-0 to the Eagles.

Perrywood piled on the pressure and a corner taken by Max led to a scramble in the box  with James scoring to make it 2-0

T.D tried to counter but the defence remained solid with Josh putting in some crunching tackles taking ball and player.

Shiply did manage to break through once and Jack saved well at his feet and then was alert enough to save the second effort

Ryan had arrived for the second half and came on for Jake who had made some good running down the flanks in the first half.

T.D had obviously suffered a Ferguson like rant at half time because they came out all fired up and were on the attack, but Josh and the defence managed to keep them out again with some bone crunching tackles.

Max and James both look threatening on the counter attack but the third goal look elusive as TD continued to press forward.

Ryan was adjudged to have fouled an opponent and a penalty was awarded, from which Jack stood no chance it goal  2-1.

Max and James continued to break but as before could not combine for the vital goal to make things safe.

In the final minutes Jack was forced into pulling off an amazing save by stopping the ball from going into the to right hand corner.

The boys at the back stood firm and saw out a well deserved and hard fought 2-1 win

Man of the Match: Josh

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  6 v 0  TD Shipley ZW

October 29th 2006 - League

Squad: Jack, James, Adam, Jack, Joe, Matt, George, Benjamin

Goal Scorers: Matt, Joe, Jack.D, Benjamin (3)

This game had a bit of a sad start to it as the boys paid a minute silence as a mark of respect to the father of one of the opposition who sadly past away the previous day.

Perrywood as always started well, with lots of pressure and a few efforts on goal. The scoring shortly opened with a long range effort from Jack that was tapped in by Ben from within the goal area. The second came from a corner taken by Jack, Ben shot but the ball came out to Jack who smashed it home 2-0 Perrywood. George then sent Benjamin on a run through on goal who in turn combined with Joe who finished neatly from close range. Perrywood at this stage were camped out in the TD half and the post was stuck first by Benjamin and then by George.

Matt came on in the second half in place of Jack.D, and it was his throw in that Ben turned on and made it 4-0 with a shot low and wide into the corner. A TD goal kick then came out to Joe who hit a real up and under that struck the post, the clearance came back to Adam who went just wide from an effort on the half way line. At this stage Jack.F had come out of Goal and James took up place between the sticks, and it was Jack.F who went on a good run down the line and linked up with Benjamin who made it 5-0. The two combined again minutes later and Benjamin went round the keeper but could only find the post. The final goal of the game was scored by Matt with a good effort struck from outside the area, in off the left upright 6-0.

Man of the Match: George

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  3 v 0  Lindfield Black

October 29th 2006 - Friendly

Squad: Ryan, Josh, Owen, James, Jake, Daniel, Max, Daniel.DK

Goal Scorers: Max, Daniel, Jake

Late on Friday night we got an email from Crawley Down Reds saying that they were unable to field a team on the Sunday. So some quick phoning around on Saturday morning and we managed to arrange a friendly game against Lindfield Black who we had already played in the League.

Perrywood started well and Portugese Daniel had two close efforts within as many minutes, then Max picked up the ball from around the half way line, ran past a couple of Lindfield players and cracked it into the top of the net 1-0 Perrywood.  Lindfield managed a rare counter attack and hit the post, then Jake broke down the right, crossed to Daniel who struck the post but then converted from the rebound, 2-0 Perrywood.

Lindfield came out with a bit more purpose in the second half and managed to contain Perrywood with no real chances for either side. Lindfield broke a few times and once it was 4 against 1, but Josh put in a solid performance at the back. Later Max took a corner for James to volley just over. James went close against after a nice run down the wing. Daniel went on a good break down the middle and then et up Jake for 3-0 Perrywood which was the final score.

Sorry I forgot to take a picture :(

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  7 v 0  Crawley Down Whites

October 22nd 2006 - League

Squad: Jack, James, Adam, Jack, Joe, Matt, George, Benjamin

Goal Scorers: Matt, Ben (5), James

Straight from the kick off Perrywood were piling on the pressure, Joe crossed to Benjamin who stuck the post. Then the keeper saved from Matt, then again from Benjamin. Jack tried one of his long shots but was just wide. Then Matt made a run into the box and just as he was about to shoot the defender clipped his leg and a penalty was awarded, Matt converted in off the post 1-0 Perrywood. Ben almost doubled the lead shortly after when the ball struck both posts and then came out. He had another effort ruled as because of a foul on the keeper. Ben did manage to make it 2-0 after pouncing on a loose ball and slotting it under the keeper.  Jack Figg in goal was called into action and did pull off a good save, but moments later the ball was down the other end of the pitch and James made it goal number three with a shot from outside the box.

The second half started much the same way with the Eagles pushing forward, Ben came close as did Jack (twice). The after a run Matt crossed to Benjamin who swept it in 4-0. After more Perrywood pressure Joe headed down a good ball to Benjamin who cracked it home 5-0. There were a few times when Crawley Down broke but Adam always looked solid at the back. Jack went on a good run through midfield but ran into traffic in the Crawley box, Benjamin took over and poked it home for 6, then he intercepted the kick off and ran through the team and made it 7-0, which was the final score. A good solid performance by all with some excellent passing and movement.

Man of the Match: Matt

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  5 v 0  Horley Town Eagles

October 22nd 2006 - League

Squad: Ryan, Josh, Daniel, Jake, James, Leonardo, Daniel, Max

Goal Scorers: Leonardo (2), Max, Daniel, James

The boys knew they were going to be up against a tough team in Horley and they started brightly and pushed up on the team from Horley. The pressure seemed to pay off as Leonardo latched on a stray goal kick and punished the keeper by smacking it straight back into the goal 1-0 Perrywood. Max tried a long range shot which hit the keeper full on in the face and came out quickly to Jake who was unable to knock it into the net. The game was paused for a minute to give the keeper time to recover.  For the rest of the half the game ebbed and flowed with both teams having chances, Ryan had to pull off a couple of saves to ensure that the Eagles went into the break with their lead intact.

The second half started how the first one ended with Perrywood pushing forward all the time. Even the rain could not dampen the boys spirits as they went in pursuit of the next goal. James's long range shot was parried by the goal keeper and Max pounce on the loose ball to make it 2-0. Then a long throw from Max put in Daniel who ran past the defence and shot it high into the corner of the net, 3-0. Max was also involved with the 4th, as he whipped in a corner for James to superbly convert with an excellent side foot volley. The final goal was a good run out from defence by Daniel who then crossed to Leonardo who buried it in the net.  5-0 was the final score, and it was the Perrywood Eagles who were flying high.

Man of the Match: Ryan

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  5 v 0  Horley Town Falcons

October 15th 2006 - League

Squad: Jack, James, Adam, Jack, Joe, Matt, George

Goal Scorers: Joe, Jack (2), Matt (2)

The boys started brightly although it was apparent this would not be as easy for them as the game last week. They started as they meant to go on with an early run by Joe cutting the ball back to Jack who struck the ball hard narrowly missing the target. Perrywood kept up the pressure forcing a corner. This was taken by Jack, the ball flew across the goal mouth which was swamped by Falcons players. Joe being alert and ready dived through with a solid header directing the ball into the rear of the net, 1-0 Perrywood. This just fired the boys onwards and upwards with Mattie on the first of many solo runs just forcing the ball wide. Jimmy continued to play a fantastic game controlling the ball with precision. He then slotted the ball well to Mattie who took an early strike this was well defended by Falcons. The efforts just kept coming from Mattie and Jack in particular. It was only a matter of time before Jimmy picked up the ball in the Perrywood half laying a well weighted pass down the line to Mattie who in turn put the ball across the face of the goal to Jack who was unmarked. Jack struck well sending the ball under the keeper, 2-0 Perrywood. No sooner had the re start began Jack picked up the ball on the left hand side turned and struck all in one motion smashing the ball into the top corner of the falcons goal, 3-0.

The 2nd half continued with more pressure from the boys, with Mattie having effort after effort just being unlucky not to find the target. The first half was a great display of passing football, this half was more of a scrap with the Falcons finding them selves in the Perrywood goal mouth a couple of times. Each time the defence was a solid as usual with Adam clearing up the Falcons chances. The one time Jack F was called upon during the game he came out well and smothered the ball. George and Joe controlled the middle of the park well battling hard with George diving in with every challenge normally winning the ball. Jimmy took a good throw putting it down the line to Mattie who controlled it well racing forward held off the defenders and stroked it past the keeper, 4-0. Immediately after this an identical move with Jimmy and Mattie resulted in Mattie taking the ball round the keeper and securing his well deserved second of the day, final score 5-0 Nil Perrywood.

Man of the Match: Jack Dury

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  8 v 0  Ifield Edwards Red

October 15th 2006 - League

Squad: Ryan, Josh, Owen, James, Leonardo, Daniel, Max

Goal Scorers: Max (3), Leonardo (2), James (3)

The first half started with some good early pressure from Perrywood and a couple of good chances. The boys eventually got off the mark with a good clean strike. Leonardo doubled the lead shortly afterwards 2-0. The Eagles came close again when James cut back a corner and Daniel just hit wide. Perrywood were at this time camped in the Ifield half and Leonardo volleyed home from an Iflield throw, 3-0. Moments after this Max picked up the ball in the centre and ran towards goal striking it well, the keeper managed to get his hands to it but it trickled over the line, 4-0.

The boys continued to play well in the second half with a good solid performance all round. James scored after picking up an Ifield goal kick. Max took the ball forward and between him, Daniel and Leonardo managed to get on the attack and got a corner. From the corner take by Max, James converted and made it 6-0. Seconds after the restart Perrywood was on the attack and Max was brought down, from the resulting free kick Max blasted in a great goal. The final goal was made by some good combination play between Max, Leonardo and James with James getting the final touch to make it 8-0.

Man of the Match: Leonardo

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  3 v 1  Lindfield Black

October 8th 2006 - League

Squad: Ryan, Josh, Owen, James, Jake, Leonard, Daniel, Max

Goal Scorers: Max (2), Leonardo,

It was the Golden Eagles turn to kick off first this weekend and the boys started brightly. Max went just wide early on, and James had a header pushed wide by the keeper. From the resulting corner, James cut the ball back to Max who hit a 15 yard screamer into the top right corner, 1-0 Eagles. A few minutes later Leonardo cut through the middle of the park, past two of the opposition, squared the ball to Max who knocked home his second of the day, 2-0 Eagles.  Leonardo rounded off the half with a good solo effort, dribbling past a couple of defenders and then slotting the ball under the keeper, the half finished 3 - 0.

The second half started well, but there were no real clear cut chances for the Eagles with most of the games being played out in the midfield. A few times Lindfield did break through but Josh was on hand to tidy up. Lindfield did finally succeed and scored a late consolation goal, 3-1 the final score.

Man of the Match: Max

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  16 v 0  Ifield Edwards White

October 8th 2006 - League

Squad: Jack, James, Adam, Jack, Joe, Matt, Benjamin, George

Goal Scorers: Jack, Jack, James, Adam, Matt, George, Joe (3), Ben (6), O.G

The Eagles had an 11:45 Kick off and were keen to get going, straight from the start Matt was through and his shot hit the post. Minutes later Jack struck direct from a corner (again) 1-0 Eagles. The next corner he whipped across was put in the back of the net by a defender so 2-0 Eagles. After this the goals just kept coming, and came so quick it was hard to keep track, Ben got the third, the fourth and the fifth. Then Joe converted from a corner, for 6, then he got another, which rounded off the first half at 7-0. Jack looked like he was getting rather bored in goal with nothing coming his way.

The second half started with goals from James, Ben and Gorge, then Matt, followed by a goal from Adam that was scored just outside his own area! Jack Figg now wanted to get some action so came out on pitch and Jack Dury replaced him in goal. Ben scored again to make it 13, followed by another one from Joe.  Jack.F made the most of his time out on pitch as he bagged a goal before Ben rounded it off with number 16, and his 6th of the day.

Man of the Match: Ben

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  5 v 2  Lindfield Greens

October 1st 2006 - League

Squad: Jack, James, Adam, Owen, Jack, Joe, Matt, Benjamin,

Goal Scorers: Jack, Matt, Joe, Benjamin (2)

It was the first day of the new season in the Crawley League, we all inspected the pitch and the artificial turf looked good (no muddy shoes this year). The Perrywood teams were playing one after the other on the same pitch so we had a good turn out of supporters, and some had already sampled  the delights of the burger van before the kick off. The first half started well and it was end to end stuff with both teams having similar amounts of possession and chances, but the deadlock was finally broken when Jack whipped in a wicked corner. From where we were standing we could not tell if it took a deflection or not but the ball ended up in the back of the net so 1-0 Eagles.

The second half started brightly and Matt was immediately through on goal and calmly slotted it past the keeper (2-0). Moments later Jack whipped in another corner to Joe, who brought it down well and smashed it home from a couple of yards out (3-0). The next goal was scored by Benjamin who picked the ball up in his own half, ran towards goal and placed it in the corner (4-0). Lindfield managed to get one back (4-1), then Benjamin latched onto a pass from James, turned, ran towards goal and chipped the keeper (5-1). Lindfield scored another one (well and truly into injury time) and the final score was 5-2.

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  3 v 1  Maidenbower Blue

October 1st 2006 - League

Squad: Jack, Ryan, Josh, James, Jake, Leonard, Daniel, Daniel, Max

Goal Scorers: Max, Leonardo (2) (o.g 1)

The next game of the day was at the later 10:45 kick off, and it was good to see some of the people from the first game stay and support the boys. The Golden Eagles have a few boys that are new to the squad and playing league football, so it's obviously going to take a few games for everyone to gel and know where they should be playing, and to know the other boys around them. Saying that they battled extremely hard and had a lot of the ball in the first half but a goal seem to evade them. Then in the final minute of the first half Madenbower had an attack and whipped in a corner and Leonardo unwittingly stuck the ball into his own net, so the first half finished 0-1.

The boy's heads didn't drop and they came out with all guns blazing in the second half. Max chipped in a nice free kick which Leonardo converted at the rear post (1-1). Perrywood had a few more good chances but could not add to the score, then James went on a good run down the right, linked up well with Max who blasted it low and hard into the bottom left corner of the goal (2-1). Maidenbower tried to counter in search of an equaliser but our midfield battled hard, and anything that did get through them was tidied up by Josh at the back. A few minutes before the final whistle Leonardo ran through the centre past two defenders and then cracked it into the net, 3-1 the final score to Perrywood.

So a good start to the season with two wins out of two and plenty of goals scored.
